Wilderness House Press seeks new fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. In general, we publish authors that have first appeared in Wilderness House Literary Review, but that is not a prerequisite.
We are interested in any work of literary value, from a chapbook to a full-length novel or nonfiction work. Our publishing schedule is completely contingent on operating funds. That means one of two things: We will publish new works only when the last work published has broken even financially OR sooner if the author or their sponsors wish to subsidize the publication of a new work.
Queries for works of poetry should include a completed manuscript and be sent electronically. The included works should be in a form that is readable by Microsoft Word (.doc files preferred). Do not send us pdf files.
For WHLR please submit just one examples of your best fiction per issue.
Please follow our editor's requests:
1 -- Only ONE submission per reading period. The rest will be automatically declined.
2 -- ~3000 maximum word count
3 -- shorter stories have a better chance of being accepted
4 -- Please submit only 3 poems at a time (give us your best)
5 -- Manuscripts should be in MS .doc format (if possible)
Please make sure that your name and the title of your work is in the file you upload.
Finally, here are our submission deadlines:
March 1 - Spring issue, published ~April 1
June 1 - Summer issue, published ~July 1
September 1 - Fall issue, published ~October 1
December 1 - Winter issue, published ~January 1

Fiction may be submitted in three formats:
- very short stories less than 500 words in length
- short stories less than 1000 words in length
- Short stories that don’t fit the above should be less than 3000 words.
